Ramblings

  • Good riddance, "Bromance" -- the show where Brody Jenner woos a new best friend. A stupid premise combined with some intolerable contestants made for a downright terrible show. Did I watch every episode? Yes, but in my defense there were only six episodes. If I could drop "The Real World" and "The City" out of my rotation, I could quit MTV cold turkey. That probably won't happen anytime soon.

  • Revised ACC Basketball Power Rankings:
1) UNC - will lose one more (but only one more) conference game.
2) Duke - embarrassed at Clemson, but won't lose more than 4 or 5 conference games.
3) Wake - barely holding onto this spot after two BAD losses in a row.
4) Clemson - don't play UNC or Duke again and play two against UVa.
5) Boston College - Tyrese Rice is a machine and the young players fill their roles.
6) Virginia Tech - less likely to dance than Miami or FSU but are better than both.
7) FSU - needs to finish at least 9-7 in ACC play.
8) Miami - probably needs 9 conference wins (with one over Duke or UNC)
9) Maryland - Gary Williams should keep his job but they're headed to NIT.
10) N.C. State - I'm not impressed with them at all.
11) Georgia Tech -- beat Wake and played most other teams close.
12) Virginia - no comment.

  • How good is Rafael Nadal? He is winning on hardcourt now? There is little doubt that Roger Federer will eventually break Pete Sampras's grand slam record, but isn't it time to start talking about Nadal breaking THAT record? He has no weaknesses. He is 22. He might win 20 grand slam titles. He already has six -- 4 French Open, 1 Australian, and 1 Wimbledon. On a related note, I can't believe what a pansy Novak Djokovic is. In case you don't follow tennis, Djokovic is the third-best tennis player in the world right now (behind Nadal and Federer). He quit in his last match against Andy Roddick due to exhaustion and cramps. It was hot in Australia, but it was the quarterfinals of a major. It is also the fourth time he has retired in a grand slam event in the last three years. I know you have to be in good shape to play tennis, but it's still tennis. Finish the match. This is the longest anyone has ever blogged about tennis.
  • Idris Elba -- better known as Stringer Bell from "The Wire" -- will appear in six episodes of "The Office" later this season. If I've never mentioned this before, go rent "The Wire" -- it is the best crime drama of all-time.
  • What is this 25 Random Things thing on Spacebook? It's great that you wish you could travel more and want to learn a second language, but we both know you won't do either. And even if you do, WHO GIVES A SHIT?

Chiz...agree on all counts re: Nadal. I had the same conversation with someone on Monday. The other day I tried to look up the Vegas odds on him winning the Grand Slam this year. Couldn't find them. Might be a decent bet, although odds have likely narrowed dramatically since his win in Australia. Barring injury, he's a virtual lock to win the French. He's already proven he can beat Federer at Wimbledon. All that's left is the US Open, which is really just the Australian Open played in the US. The pressure on him at that point would be immense, but pressure doesn't seem to phase him. He could probably handle it.

Plus, he now OWNS Federer. He's completely in Roger's head. Roger wilts when Nadal challenges him.

I'm not sure it's much of a 'rivalry' anymore b/c Nadal now wins every time they play. It is still fun to watch, though.

Stinger Bell + The Office? Nice. The only thing better might be seeing Michael (Scott) join Avon on a run to the stash house.
